Описание

The Dubliners were an Irish folk band founded in 1962 in Dublin, Ireland. The group was first named the Ronnie Drew Ballad Group, after the name of its founding member. The band had a 50 year career although the group’s major successes were centered around lead singers Luke Kelly and Ronnie Drew. The group was internationally known by their lively Irish folk songs, their wispy ballads and traditional instrumentals. The folk scenes in both Dublin and London in the early 1960s saw much of the Dubliners as regulars in the most popular folk venues, until they signed on with Major Minor label in 1965. They eventually made it to the Top of the Pop top hits list in 1967 with their his “Seven Drunken Nights” and “Black Velvet Band”. The first of the two hits sold over 250,000 copies in the UK at the time and it was known that the Dubliners often performed songs that had been considered controversial. They drew plenty of criticism from folk purists and had actually acquired an unofficial ban from the the natural broadcaster of Ireland for a short while in the sixties. During the late sixties to early seventies, the group’s popularity spread through Europe and the United States. The Dubliners maintained their success throughout he 1970s while collaborating with the Pogues and making it to the UK Top Singles chart two more times.
